SCIENCE

Science is a practical way of finding reliable answers to questions we may ask about the world around us. Science at Haslington Primary Academy and Nursery is about developing children’s ideas and ways of working to enable them to make sense of the world in which they live.

The Science curriculum that we deliver enables our children to learn through fun, practical investigations, as well as by using and applying process skills. Children look forward to engaging science lessons that provide them with the best skills for their future education and careers.

The aim of our Science Curriculum is to:

  • Prepare children for life in an increasingly scientific and technological world.
  • Encourage care of our environment.
  • Help children acquire a growing understanding of scientific ideas by extending the scientific concepts of their world.
  • Promote healthy living through understanding of our bodies.

INTENT

At Haslington Primary Academy and Nursery, we aim to provide and deliver a fun and engaging Science curriculum. Through our Science lessons, pupils will develop an enthusiasm for Science, a desire to explore the world around them and consider ambitious career paths in Science, Technology, Mechanics or Engineering. Our Science lessons meet the objectives of the National Curriculum whilst simultaneously providing exciting opportunities for pupils to explore and discover the world of Science. Science at Haslington Primary Academy and Nursery is about developing children’s ideas and ways of working to enable them to make sense of the world in which they live.

IMPLEMENTATION

Our Science planning ensures the clear progression of skills and the development of Science knowledge. There are plenty of opportunities for hands on learning through investigating and discovery. Our Science lessons, help prepare our pupils for life in an increasingly scientific and technological world, encourage pupils to take care of our environment, and promote healthy living through the understanding of our bodies.

All pupils are taught the skills and knowledge of Science as outlined in the programme of study in the National Curriculum for Science. Further development of Science is enhanced through opportunities such as Science Week.

IMPACT

Throughout the year, our Science Lead will monitor the planning, teaching and assessing of Science. They will do this through lesson observations, book monitoring, pupil voice and checking assessments.

Our Science lead will also meet with other Subject Leads from across the Trust, to ensure that our expectations are similar, as well as our assessments.
