PHYSICAL EDUCATION

INTENT

At Haslington Primary Academy and Nursery, our PE curriculum aims to get every pupil active and enjoying sport. Our PE scheme of work enables children to engage in competitive sports, lead healthy, active lives, and develop competence and confidence to participate in a broad range of sports. Haslington Primary Academy provides opportunities for all children to demonstrate the schools RESPECT values. The school takes pride in their sporting achievements in the previous academic years such as winning our division and being promoted in the Crewe and Nantwich School Sports Partnership Town Sports and achieving the gold sports mark 2 years running.

IMPLEMENTATION

Haslington Primary Academy and Nursery delivers weekly PE lessons from Nursery through to Year 6 by our local sports provider Adv4nce Sports Group. Our early years curriculum children will establish key fundamental skills such as agility & spatial awareness, shapes, receiving, travelling, sending, jumping, coordination, rolling and balance. The children continue to build on these skills through our KS1 curriculum that focuses on specific skills in ball skills, gymnastics, targets, team games, and athletics. Throughout KS2 children will apply and develop the skills learnt in different sports. Children will develop a competitive and co-operative nature in a range of sports. Children should develop an understanding of how to improve in different physical activities and sports and learn how to evaluate and recognise their own and each other’s successes. Children in Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 complete swimming sessions for a half term. Every class will complete dance sessions for a half term and will complete orienteering sessions every half term.

Haslington Primary Academy are part of the Crewe and Nantwich School Sports Partnership which provides opportunities for staff CPD and opportunity for children from Years 1-6 to attend inter-schools sporting events through their inspire, aspire and celebrate focus. As the Alexander Academy Trust, we also take part in a variety of inter-school competitive and c0-operative events. Adv4nce Sports Group offer 2 lunch clubs per day this is done on a rotational basis. The second lunch club is team training to prepare children for up and coming events After school clubs are also available each day which are suggested by the children during pupil voice monitoring.

IMPACT

Our PE lead (Miss Barber) works collaboratively with Adv4nce Sports Group staff (Mr Bradbury) to monitor the planning, teaching and assessment of PE through lesson observations, pupil voice and assessing progress. As a school, we also meet with other PE subject leads from across the Trust, cluster schools and local high schools for support and to ensure that our expectations are similar, as well as our assessments.
