PANTS ARE PRIVATE

At Haslington Primary Academy and Nursery, we participate in the Talk PANTS NSPCC programme.

Talk PANTS helps children understand that their body belongs to them, and they should tell someone they trust if anything makes them feel upset or worried.

The Talk PANTS campaign helps parents of 3-11 year-olds keep their child safe from abuse. In school, we support parents, carers and guardians by delivering assemblies and class-based activities to reinforce the PANTS rule:

  • Pants are private
  • Always remember your body belongs to you
  • No means no
  • Talk about secrets that upset you
  • Speak up, someone can help

The Pants are Private scheme is accessible to children from the age of 3 where children are taught to say yes and no, show acceptance or refusal in different situations, when to ask questions including when to check permission, talk about their own lives to a key adult, put on some of their own clothes, demonstrate aspects of self-care such as handwashing and demonstrate some aspects of co-operative view.

These learning opportunities are further developed when children are 4 years old as they learn the PANTS rule and apply this to real life scenarios, talk about everyday rules and develop strategies for seeking support. These strategies and learning opportunities are furthered throughout the school with children up to the age of 11 years old.
